Colour Matching service available. Either bring in or send a piece of wood which you are using and we will try different stains until you get your desired effect or matched colour. Staining or dying wood is not an exact science and by sampling on the actual wood you are using takes the guess work away.

 

 

All waxes are a blend of Beeswax, Carnuaba wax and Turpentine. Specially designed for different projects , some for Antique Furniture, some for New Pine and some for Floors. We have available the perfect product for old and new Beams whether they are Pine or Oak (Liquid Beeswax) will keep the beams in great condition without leaving a false looking finish. Also we have one of the best spray polishes with no silicones especially formulated for antique furniture.

 

   

We stock a vast range of wood dyes and stains. Oil stains (white spirit based) -Spirit stains (methylated spirit based) -Water stains which speak for themselves. Please ask for advice on which stain is compatible with which finish. Stains and wood dyes can be very light in nature to just take away the whiteness in wood to very dark to change the woods appearance completely. Also they can be what they call Light Fast which plainly means they do not Fade when in direct sunlight, which is very important in well lit rooms.

 

There are many types of Finishes available like Varnishes , Lacquers , French Polish and Special Bar Top/ Table Top Finishes. The choice of the finish is normally determined by the amount of durability/sheen level required and the choice of stain used if required can also determine which finish is compatible. Most finishes are available in three different sheen levels Matt ,Satin and Gloss. Please ask for advice as it is always the best policy to get the right product for the job in hand.

 

   

We stock a top quality range of abrasives as we found that the "so called" cheaper papers lasted a fraction of the time of ours. To get the best performance from abrasives it is best to purchase the right type for the job i.e Lubrasil paper for between the coats of finishes and Garnet / Sterate paper for the rubbing down of bear wood. We supply 50 metre rolls, separate sheets and discs etc.

 

   

We have an extensive range of wood adhesives. The modern which include Moisture Cured Polyurethane, Waterproof P.V.A, Cascamite, Epoxy and Special Superglues especially designed for wood which give you time to position the piece. We also stock the traditional glues like Sheppy Liquid Scotch and Pearl Glue which are designed for antique furniture which allows any pieces stuck together to be heated up and separated at a later date for repairs etc.

 

 

Full range of gloves for different purposes. Disposable in either Latex or Vinyl, Chemical/ Solvent resistant (Nitrile), Cuff Riggers, Special grip , Household and Heavy Weight Latex. Gloves are always recommended as part of Health and Safety along with Masks and Eye protection.

 

 

We keep a large range of wooden legs including Farmhouse and Refectory style which are suitable for full size and coffee tables, all of which are made of solid Pine. We also have 18, 35 ,46 and 50mm Beech knobs with screw fitting, along with Tulip and Bun Feet in 3 and 4 inch made of Pine.

 

   

One of the largest range of Brass Handles , Knobs , Locks , Escutcheons , Table fittings, Castors, Hinges and Catches etc are available to us. We have a large range in stock but an even larger range at our disposal, whether it is matching something missing or broken to starting from scratch.

 

   

Health and Safety is by far the most important part of finishing but if all the safety measures are followed there is very little cause for concern. This field is monitored very closely to make sure that the right safety equipment available to all, at a reasonable price. Steel Wool is available in many different grades depending on the job in hand. For instance "0000" Grade is used for cutting back/ applying wax and Grade 3 is for use with Paint Stripper to remove old finishes.

 

   

Paint Stripping is an important part of wood finishing as many finishes become too bad to repair so the only choice is to remove them. One word of caution is check the value of the piece as sometimes stripping can devalue it.

 

   

Colourman Paints are water based like the old milk paints which used to be available. They are 18th/19th Century replica paints which are chalky to the touch and need overcoating with clear sealer if durability is required. These paints are ideal for painting, colour washing and distressing old and new furniture. All colour range are inter-mixable.

 

 

With one of the biggest woodscrew suppliers going out of business , certain screws are not so readily available but we stock Traditional Steel and Brass countersunk, plus Brass Roundheads and Pozi-Drive. Various sizes available from "0" in Brass countersunk to size "14" in Traditional Steel Countersunk.

 

 

We stock in our opinion the best clear and coloured exterior finishes which are available. Along with being micro-porous which allows the wood to breathe they also let any moisture out of the wood but not back in. They also have an anti-fungicide. The most important thing about these finishes is that they don't peel, flake or chip off like varnish type products.
